What is Tokyo Time?
Tokyo Time is an Australian classifieds site for Japanese watches. Owners list what they are selling, buyers message them through the site, and the two of them settle it between themselves. Tokyo Time is not a dealer: it holds no stock, takes no commission on a sale, and is not part of the transaction.
What does it cost to list a watch?
$9.90 for a 45-day listing with up to 8 photographs, or $29.90 for 90 days, 24 photographs and a Featured slot. Both get a permanent page of their own. There is no commission and no fee when it sells. Full comparison.
Which brands can I list?
Japanese watches: Seiko, Grand Seiko, King Seiko, Credor, Citizen, Orient, Casio, Ricoh and the independents. If a Japanese maker is not on the list, use “Other Japanese” and put the name in the title.
Does Tokyo Time check that the watches are genuine?
No, and it says so rather than implying otherwise. Nobody here inspects a watch or verifies a seller's description. Redials, replaced hands and swapped bezels are common on vintage Japanese watches. Ask for photographs of the movement and the caseback, and see the watch in person where you can.
Does the seller see my email address?
No. Messages go through Tokyo Time. The seller sees your name and what you wrote; your email address is never shared with them, and theirs is never shared with you. Both of you get an email when a message arrives.
How does the search understand a whole sentence?
You can type “1970s chronograph under $800 in Melbourne” and it will work out the decade, the movement, the budget and the state. What it does is turn your words into filters — which are then shown to you, so you can see what it decided and change it. The results themselves come from the listings database in the ordinary way. It cannot invent a watch that is not for sale.
Does Tokyo Time take a commission?
No. You pay once to list, and what the buyer pays you is what you keep. There is no fee on the sale and no transaction going through this site at all.
Can I list a watch that is not Japanese?
No. Tokyo Time only carries Japanese watches. It is a smaller market than "watches", and that is the point — a buyer looking for a Bell-Matic does not want to wade through Swiss listings, and a site that carries everything is a site that ranks for nothing.
What happens when my listing expires?
The page comes down and it stops appearing in search on the site. You get a warning email a week before. On Premium, relisting within 14 days is half price.
Someone is behaving badly. What do you do about it?
Email hello@tokyotime.com.au with the listing address and what happened. Accounts can be suspended and listings removed. Tokyo Time cannot recover money — it never had it — so report anything involving payment to your bank and to Scamwatch as well.
Do you have an app?
No. The site works on a phone; an app would be a second thing to keep in step with the first for no benefit either of us can name.
