About Tokyo Time

Tokyo Time is a classifieds site for Japanese watches in Australia. Owners list what they are selling, buyers message them through the site, and the two of them settle it between themselves.

What it is not

It is not a dealer and not a marketplace in the sense of holding money. It does not own any of the watches on it, does not take a commission on a sale, does not process the payment between buyer and seller, and does not authenticate, inspect or value anything listed.

That last point is worth stating plainly rather than in a footer, because several sites in this category imply otherwise. If you buy a watch through Tokyo Time and it is not what the listing said, Tokyo Time has no money of yours to return and no dispute process that can compel anything. It is classifieds, in the way a noticeboard is classifieds.

Why only Japanese watches

Because a site that carries everything is a site that is nobody's first choice for anything. Someone looking for a Bell-Matic, a Cosmotron or a King Seiko does not want to filter Swiss listings out first, and the vocabulary of this market — calibre codes, dial variants, the difference between a 6105 and a 6309 — only works if everything on the site shares it.

How it makes money

Listing fees. $9.90 or $29.90 per listing, paid once. That is the whole business model, and it is on the pricing page in full.

There is no commission, no fee on the sale, and nothing taken from the buyer. Featured placement is sold, and it appears in a labelled row rather than being mixed into the ordinary results — the reasoning is on the pricing page, and it matters more than it sounds.
